Today was my first
day of school at Scoula S.Giovanna D'arco (29th). I have to say I was really nervous, because in
my last exchange experience the first few days of school were kinda hard. I had
no idea what to expect from my new school. I was gladly surprise to know that
everyone knew I was coming; they were extremely nice and welcoming! I was
really comfortable there, It was great!
The classes I had today were: Italian, psychology, philosophy and
English. Italian is becoming so much
easier mostly to understand. Speaking still kind of hard because I don’t have a
really vast vocabulary, but I can tell I’ve been improving in the last days, and
also my host family had noticed it. I’m hoping I’ll be able to talk more easily
soon. Also today I had a bit of a culture shock, students in Italy get up their
sits every time a teacher or the principle walks in the classroom. In the first class I
didn’t get up, I had no idea what was happening, it was kind of (really) awkward.
But after all everything was great, I’m looking forward to go to school
tomorrow! (I never really thought I would say that)
Ciao! My name is Stephanie Bernardoni, I'm from Brazil, I'm 17 years old and a recently graduated high school. I'm a former exchange student in USA-CA and well I loved my US experience so much, that I decided instant of going to college right away, I would go do another exchange program. Italy was my first choice and now here I am in Vittorio Veneto-TV.

First days
On Sunday the 27th,
a few of my host sister’s friends came over to watch a soccer game, after that
we went to this really nice place called taverna, where I met a few more of my
host sister’s friends, it was really fun! On
Monday and Tuesday I went with my
host sister to her school, because mine didn’t start till Wednesday.
Well I’ve been
dancing since I can remember, and I didn’t wanted to stop while I was here. As
soon as I arrived here my host mom already said “We are going to take you see some
dance studios around” and it made me suuuuper happy. So on Tuesday night (28th)
I had my first dance lesson at K&S Dance, the school was really nice and I
liked the class I might start doing classes there, but before I want to check
some other places out, but having dance class was great. Knowing that my
host family are worried about the thing that I like is so comforting, they
really make me fell at home!
Meeting my host family
The 26th was
the day that we all were going to met are host family. We were so nervous to
met them and scared that we wouldn’t be able to talk to are families at all. We
got up very early to go to the train station. My train was the first to leave.
It was sad leaving everyone but I was excited, yet scared, to meet my host
family. I was with another girl that was going to the same region as me, it was
good having her there because we had the same fears and we were able to help
each other. After 3 hours we had arrived at “Venizia Mestre” station. Seeing my
host sister and my host mom for the first time was such a great felling, they
were SUPER nice! It turn out my Italian was not that bad, like they were saying
I was “bravÃssima”. Walking in my “new home” was great, the house and the view
were beautiful! I got to meet my host little brother and my host dad, both
super nice as well!! I LOVED my host family right away! After having lunch, two
of my sister’s friends came over, I met them and we went to the center of the
town where I met another one of my sister’s friends, also extremely nice. For
dinner we had this amazing pizza. My first day could not have been better!

Last day of orientation
The 25th was the most fun of all the days in
orientation. We got to walk around Rome the whole day! First we went to the Coliseum
with a guide, and was quite interesting. After, the guide took us to this
gelato place, it had more than 150 flavors, it was just amazing. We all got are gelatos and went to the
Fontana di Trevi, which is my favorite place in Roma, even though it was not my
first time there, it always feels special somehow. Then we got to go to the
Spanish steps, there we were given free time to shop and walk around. A friend
and me went shopping for a bit, then got coffee and sat in the Spanish steps
just talking and admiring Roma. By the end of the day everyone got a little
emotional, because we would all miss each other and also everyone was scared to
meet their host families. At orientation I made so many friends, and everyone
was really nice, it was sad having to leave.
